Our Mission

Supporting Benedictine education worldwide

Our mission is to promote Benedictine values in schools, principally through funding cultural, pastoral, and outreach programmes.

The wider Benedictine education tradition is often described through values including prayer, stability, humility, hospitality, stewardship, justice and peace.

Benedictine values

The Association of Benedictine Colleges & Universities identifies eleven defining values of Benedictine education, based on the Rule of St Benedict.

Rule 19

Love of Christ and Neighbours

We believe that the Divine presence is everywhere

Rule 43

Prayer

Nothing is to be preferred to prayer

Rule 35

Stability

Stand firm in one’s promises

Rule 7

‘Conversatio’ (transformation through devotion)

Out of love for Christ… delight in virtue

Prologue

Obedience

Listen with the ear of the heart

Rule 72

Discipline

Let them bear their infirmities, of body and mind, with the utmost patience

Rule 31

Humility

Let him be humble

Rule 53

Hospitality

Let all be received as Christ

Rule 31

Stewardship

Regard all utensils as if they were the sacred vessels of the altar

Prologue

Common Good

The good of all concerned may prompt us to a little strictness

Rule 58

Justice & Peace

In all things may God be glorified

Our ambition over the next five years is to grow this work substantially: more grants, in more places, funded by a wider community of people who care about Benedictine education.
